Scattered Village Exhibit wins award
The
Scattered Village Exhibit, funded by the North Dakota Department of
Transportation, and on display at Mandan Public Library, has been
awarded the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Environmental
Excellence Award in the Cultural and Historical Resources category for
the "Scattered Village Exhibit and Curriculum Project."
The
exhibit and curriculum result from the discovery of a pre-historic
village during the 1997 re-construction of 1st Street East in Mandan.
Morton
Mandan Public Library has played an integral role in making this
exhibit available to the citizens of North Dakota. Kelly Steckler,
Library Director, says "The instructional component of the exhibit is a
terrific piece in teaching students about events that occurred in their
own back yard."
The curriculum DVD incorporates local people and
footage. By studying about this in school, followed by seeing the
artifacts displayed at the library, the students are able to understand
how history affects them.
This exhibit was also named a winner
of a 2006 Telly Awards. The Telly Awards honor outstanding television
commercials, video productions and films.

Are you on the bus?
Morton
Mandan Public Library is planning a Community Read. The chosen book is
"Good to Great" by Jim Collins. This easy to read book,
based on several years of research, details what factors are at
play in taking a business from "good" to "great." These findings can be
extrapolated to social service agencies, communities, or even within a
family.
Discussion groups will be held--planning is ongoing.
The book and audio book are available from Morton Mandan Public Library.
